Calderside Academy

Calderside Academy is a school that is situated in Blantyre, Scotland. In 2008 Calderside Academy was opened by MSP Fiona Hyslop.

The school is currently being run by a Mr J Dodds, after the sad departure of the ex Acting Headteacher Freda Hutchison, as she had retired at such an old age. In the Mathematics department, Liam MacIntyre the Shinty player currently teaches.

Subjects Being Offered Within The Building

The subjects that this school is offering varies from a range of things, such as English, Maths, Hospitality, Music, Drama, Humanities, Latin, Classical Studies, Physical Education (PE), Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computing, Religious Education (RE), Home Economics, Art, Computing, Business Management, and Technological Studies.

Levels being offered

Under authority of the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority), all of the levels that the school is offering the levels Foundation, General, Credit and Intermediate 1 to Third and Fourth year pupils, whereas Fifth and Sixth year pupil have the choice as to whether or not they want to take their education even further by doing Intermediate 1, 2, Higher, or Advanced Higher.

Names Of School Houses

Arran, Lewis, Mull and Skye are the four houses that the school currently has. Each house has its own charity dedicated to it, for example, the Scottish Cot Death Trust (Skye), RSPCA (Mull) And two other charities.
